On July 1, my baby boy turned 16 years old.

ભાવનગર ને વરતેજ વચ્ચે રે’ બાળુડાની ફૈ ;
બાળુડો જ્યારે જલમિયો ત્યારે ઝબલા ટોપીમાંથી ગૈ

Since January I was pestering him about having a huge birthday. Well, he did not want one. He just wanted 6 of his classmates to come home and play the X-Box, eat pizza, cake and just chill out at home. That's exactly what he did on July 1st.
On July 4th, which was also Ashadi Beej, Rath Yatra and Punarvashu nakshatra, I held a havan for my son's well - being. The pandit who did the havan mentioned a couple of times that I had chosen a very blessed day for the havan - I felt that the Gods were in my son's favor. The havan went well, my son got lots of blessings for all the elders and love from the younger ones. The menu was good too:

Shrikhand
Kadhi
Dal
Bhat
batata - tameta nu shaak
Ringan tuver nu shaak
Kala chana - khata meetha
and to top it all off - icecream cake!
It was a very simple fare, but everyone enjoyed it and were surprised at the kadhi - shrikhand and lapsi - dal combination. I had to make both as my baby brother does not like kadhi. The prasad for the havan pooja was lapsi - as it was a Friday and on top of it - Ashadi Beej - birthday of Khodiyaar Mata. Overall, it was a blessed day.
